Sauna Care 101: Tips for Keeping your Sauna in Top Shape and Prolonging the Lifespan of Your Sauna

Saunas are a wonderful addition to any home, providing a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. But in order to keep your sauna in top shape and prolong its lifespan, it's important to practice good sauna care. In this article, we'll share six tips for keeping your sauna in great condition for longer.

  • Keep it clean: A clean sauna is a happy sauna! Wipe down the benches and walls regularly with a mild cleaner to keep them free from sweat and dirt. Using a seat cover or a towel to sit on is recommended to keep the sauna boards cleaner and increase longevity.

  • Monitor the temperature: Make sure the temperature in your sauna stays within a safe range. A temperature range of 150-190°F (65-87°C) is generally recommended.

  • Ventilate properly: Good ventilation is key to a healthy sauna. Make sure your sauna has adequate ventilation to prevent moisture buildup.

  • One important aspect of sauna care is properly drying the sauna after use. This helps prevent moisture buildup and mold growth. To dry your sauna after use, leave the heater hot for a while after finishing the sauna. After about 20-30 minutes after finishing your sauna, open the window/door to allow proper ventilation and let in fresh air.

  • Maintain the heater: Following each manufacturer's instructions for maintaining your sauna heater is important, including cleaning it regularly and ensuring good condition of the sauna resistors. At some point, the sauna's electric heater also reaches the end of its service life and needs to be replaced.

  • Change sauna rocks regularly: Over time, sauna rocks can break down and lose their ability to hold heat. Replace the rocks periodically to keep your sauna functioning at its best.

By following these tips and regularly having your sauna checked and maintained, you can help ensure that your sauna stays in top shape and provides years of relaxation and enjoyment. Happy sauna-ing!
